Tragedy As Vendor Kills Daughter (15) Over $7 Bond
A Mberengwa woman allegedly assaulted and killed her 15-year-old daughter following an altercation over $7 bond.
Lydia Chenyika, a vendor, allegedly used sticks and an axe handle to beat Memory Shumba after the latter failed to surrender $7 to her mother that she had received from a client.
Chenyika, 36, appeared before Mberengwa Magistrate Evia Matura for the crime which was committed in November 2019.
She was remanded in custody and she will appear at the High Court on May 17, 2021 for commencement of trial.
The State alleges that on November 27, 2019 the deceased received $7 from one of her mother’s customers but did not hand it over.
The following day Chenyika discovered that her daughter received some money which she did not hand over. She dragged her into a spare bedroom where she assaulted her with sticks then allegedly struck her with a wooden axe handle once on the head causing severe bleeding.
Masvingo Mirror reports that the deceased managed to escape and her body was found at 6am the following day in a bush some 100m away from the homestead.
Chenyika was arrested after she surrendered herself to the Police.
In other news, iHarare had reported that in a heart-wrenching development, a rescue mission to retrieve a newly born baby who had been dumped in a blair toilet by the mother failed after the baby died whilst they were retrieving her.
Villagers in Zimbiru in Domboshava were left shell-shocked after they discovered that a newborn baby girl was dumped in the blair toilet by a yet-to-be-identified mother.
The incident came to light after a young boy was about to bath in preparation to go to school heard the baby crying. Shocked after hearing the crying sounds coming from the blair toilet, the boy dashed from the blair toilet and alerted his grandmother.
