The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has opened an investigation into alleged match-fixing in the Ghana Premier League clash between AshantiGold and Inter Allies.
The Miners proved too strong as they won 7-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi, with Inter Allies scoring two own goals.
However, the manner in which the two own goals were scored has sparked allegations of match-fixing.
Inter Allies defender Hashim Musah, on two occasions, deliberately kicked the ball into his own net.
“I heard it in our hotel that there was a correct scoreline of 5 goals to 1 against my club Inter Allies. I decided to spoil that bet because I don’t condone betting,” he explained his actions on Kumasi FM
“After the game, my technical team commended me for spoiling the bet they had staked.
“I promised my coach that if he allows me to play from the bench I will spoil the bet and after the game my team congratulated me.”
The two clubs have been criticized heavily for bringing the league into disrepute as the own goals video has gone viral on social media.
The GFA further urges any member of the public, the media, players, technical team members to also send any evidence or information whatsoever connected to the match (a statement, video, audio etc) to assist the investigations through the GFA integrity Hotline and email,” they added.
AshantiGold ended the season 9th on the Ghana Premier League table while Inter Allies will compete in the Division One League next season after finishing bottom.
