Raphael Dwamena signs two-year deal with Austrian second-tier side FC BW Linz

Ghana striker Raphael Dwamena has signed a two-year deal with Austrian second-tier side FC Blau Weiss Linz with an option of a further year extension.

The 25-year-old was ruled out of football indefinitely 8 months ago with a heart problem while at Danish side Vejle Boldklub.

The two-year deal will now offer Dwamena the opportunity to revive his career after being cleared to play again.

He has played only 14 games since 2019 because of the recurring heart condition first discovered during his loan spell at Real Zaragoza on loan from Levante.

“FC Blau Weiss Linz is delighted to announce the signing of Raphael Dwamena,” the club said on Friday.

“The 25-year-old top striker has totally impressed in the trial training session over the past few days and is now part of the team. Dwamena signs a contract until 2023, with an option for an additional year.

“The medical check this morning also went very well and, of course, his medical history was also carefully examined.”

Dwamena says he is grateful BW Linz is giving him the chance to return to football and would repay the trust on the pitch.

“I am so happy that FC Blau Weiss Linz is giving me the chance and I will be eternally grateful.

“I would like to repay that with performance on the pitch. My athletic path is far from over. I feel very fit and want to achieve great things with blue and white in the next 2-3 years,” he said.

The nine-capped Ghanaian has previously featured for Danish sides Red Bull Salzburg, Liefering, and Austria Lustenau.
