One person has been confirmed dead and two others are currently nursing various machete wounds after two groups clashed over a piece of land at Debre near Mpaha in the Central Gonja District.

The deceased have been identified as 48-year-old Iddrisu Fuseini while 37-year-old Ibrahim Yakubu, Alhassan Abubakari, 42 and Abaka Alhassan, 49 are nursing various machete wounds at the Mpaha Health Center and Family Life Clinic at Kigbirpe respectively.

According to the Mpaha police, the Paramount chief of Debre Traditional Area called them to palace to provide security for him  and his elders to settle a land dispute between Losumpe and Kejasa communities because he was sensing danger.

 Police went to the palace and met the chief, his elders and some people.  During the settlement of the issue both parties became aggrieved, started insulting themselves which resulted in fighting between them.

 Some of them sustained injuries and were rushed to Mpaha Health Center and Family Life Clinic, Kigbirpe for treatment.

 A team of military and police personnel from Buipe were dispatched to Mpaha to support the police at Mpaha to maintain law and order and calm has since been restored at the place.

 Efforts are being made to convey the dead to Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
