Former Deputy Minister for Youth Sports and Culture Joseph Yammin has insisted that no one can disband ‘The Hawks’ of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

There have been conversations on the use of vigilante groups by the various political parties in the country.

These conversations have been centered on the disbandment of these groups because of the violence they perpetrate especially during elections or after their political parties have been given power in the country.

But Joseph Yamin who is a former Deputy Minister has insisted that the NDC’s Hawks won’t be disbanded because they cannot be described as vigilantes.

He indicates that the group is made up of party executives who play key roles in the electioneering process for the party and nothing or no government has the right to disband them.

” The hawks are party executives. Some are branch executives, constituency executives and regional executives. I am a member of the hawks do I look like a macho man? We play different roles during the election. Some are leg men who go to houses to remind the people to vote, some also are stationed at polling stations to police the NDC polling agents so in case there are problems, they call on some of us.”

On claims that he was the financier behind the activities of “The Hawks” Yamin indicated that he sees nothing wrong with financing party executives who were going to work for the course of their political party.

“If it’s financing the hawks to ensure that we take Ghana from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP, I think it’s the best thing to do.”

He said the activities of these groups has not featured in recent times because the NPP has found a way of enlisting their members into the various security agencies in the country.
