‘Na Sika No Wo he” – Mahama asks Akufo-Addo for Ghanaians

-

Former President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has said that the people of Ghana keep asking for where monies borrowed by the current government have gone into but answers haven’t been produced to that effect.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while in opposition chided his government for borrowing but the people of Ghana during his administration could point to tangibles in terms of infrastructure.

However, the same cannot be said about the current administration as the people of Ghana keep asking where the monies borrowed have been sent to.

The former President made this known while speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga-based URA Radio as part of his “Thank You” tour of the Region.

He questioned “We were criticised by our successors as over-borrowing but a lot of what we borrowed for was tangible for people to be able to see. Several years later you are a witness to what has happened. From 120 billion cedis of total public debt to almost 400 billion cedis. What most Ghanaians ask is what have we done with this money?”

The former President noted that Agenda 111 being touted by the current government is an afterthought and after the Nana Addo DFankwa Akufo-Addo government realized the calls on it to point to where all the monies borrowed have been channelled.

“Looks like most of it has gone into consumption rather than into providing the kind of infrastructure that we need. Is only as an afterthought that suddenly realized that we must be doing some infrastructure. So Agenda 111 has been conjured. There is no transparency in how the money is going to be procured. Is it going to be to more borrowing when we already have such a high debt hanging around the country’s neck. These are all things that we could build a consensus around if they were ready to open up.”
