National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi wants justice dispensed in the case involving the  Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson.

The lawmaker is before the court over dual citizenship after his alleged failure to renounce his citizenship before contesting in the 2020 polls.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the 1st respondent has petitioned the Chief Justice of Ghana to intervene in the matter and ensure that the judge recuses himself on the case to ensure justice.

Speaking to the media shortly after the court sitting at the Cape Coast High Court on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Lawyer Gyamfi disclosed that the lead Counsel representing the MP in the case, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba has already made up his mind on this case “and should the matter continue like this justice will not be done and that’s why the Lawyer has taken decision to recuse himself from the case”.

Lawyer Gyamfi disclosed that Lawyer Amaliba is the Director of Legal for NDC and so the decision he (Lawyer Amaliba) has taken as counsel has the full blessing and support of the NDC.

“That’s why today you can see for the first t time the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and some other party executives” he added.

He insists the NDC won the Assin North seat fair and squarely and will do everything possible legally to ensure that the party protect that victory and seat as well.

On his part, the Central Regional Secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Takyi Mensah said there is a clear attempt by the 1st respondent that’s the Assin North MP and his legal team to delay the case.

Mr. Mensah was shocked to see the NDC National Chairman, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi and some other executives in court

The matter has been adjourned to 8th June, 2021 to allow the bailiffs of the court to serve the 1st respondent of the processes.
