Ghana winger, Christian Atsu, says he will follow results of Newcastle United every week after confirming his exit from the club after five years with The Magpies.
The 29-year-old made a permanent switch to the St James’s Park in 2017 after playing the 2016/17 season on loan from Chelsea.
Atsu fell out of favour at the club last season and didn’t feature in the Premier League for Newcastle United, but played a couple of games with the U23s side of the club.
He made a total of 75 appearances for The Magpies in the Premier League and scored only three goals in his five-year stay at the club.
The former Porto star took to social media to say his goodbye to Newcastle United faithful on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in a statement.
“When I arrived in Newcastle almost 5 years ago, I was made to feel welcome from the start..by everyone at the club and especially by the fans, ” Atsu posted on Instagram.
“I grew to love the city and my young family feels very at home here. Sadly, the time has now come for me to leave the club, so I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Newcastle Utd family.
“Thank you to the Toon Army fans, a lot of whom I’ve met around the city. I will never forget my time in the North East and for sure I will follow the results every week. Thank you my geordie staff, players & fans, it’s been a pleasure! 🙏🏼🖤🤍.”
