Cape Coast North Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Stephen Kojo Arhin has charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be bold and ignore Traditional Authorities, Reverend Ministers and top official protocols in the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES).
In an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Arhin believed there is the need for the President to listen to the grassroots for the appointment of MMDCES instead of traditional authorities, Reverend Ministers and top officials who did not even join the campaign during the crucial 2020 elections.
Mr. Arhin who is known in politics as Wewebi also urged the president not to even consider the unqualified and incompetent party executives for the MMDCE position but rather consider applicants who can work to improve the lives of people in the district.
He revealed that the appointment of the sitting MMDCES was based on protocols and the favorites of some party executives, traditional Authorities, Rev Ministers, top officials and other stakeholders and as a result, the party lost the majority of parliamentary seats during 2020 elections across the Central Region and therefore appealed to the President not to make no such a mistake this time around.
According to him, the majority of the MMDCES need to be sacked and new faces brought in since some of the MMDCES only used the position to enrich themselves instead of working hard to improve the lives of the people.
The NPP executive revealed that most of the MMDCES who had nothing now own a number of properties and described the situation as a disgrace to the party and the President.
He said the President’s delay in the appointment of MMDCES is the best way to choose a rightful candidate to represent him in the various districts and appealed to the general public to allow the president to appoint rightful applicants.
