Humiliated Man Burns Down Family Home After Losing Fist Fight To Wife

A Shurugwi man was so distraught after he lost a physical fight to his wife that he responded by burning down the family home in an attempt to cover for his humiliation.

iHarare has learned from the Masvingo Mirror that 38-year-old Jabulani Ncube of plot 6 Manokore Farm in Shurugwi made the drastic decision to burn down his own home after his wife Susan Nhongo (41) gave him a thorough hiding during a domestic violence brawl.

In the misguided process of trying to spite his wife and repair his injured dignity, Ncube set fire to the two-roomed house and in the process destroyed his own property with a value of $175 000 during the blaze.

He was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property. The arsonist husband appeared before Magistrate Percy Mukumba at the Shurugwi Magistrate’s Court.

Ncube did not deny the charges but instead threw himself at the mercy of the courts begging for leniency.

The state prosecutor told the court that sometime in April, Ncube returned home one day while intoxicated. The inebriated husband was in a combative mood and shouted obscenities at his wife.

This did not go down well with his wife, Susan. Susan did not take kindly to the insults being hurled at her and confronted Ncube over his unseemly behaviour.

However, the situation quickly spiralled out of control and resulted in husband and wife going at each other in a physical fight. Susan managed to hold her own and gave her husband a thrashing.

This humiliation did not sit well with Ncube who resorted to venting his anger by burning the family home.

The matter is still outstanding at the courts
