The government has announced that it is going to upgrade Airteltigo from 3G to a 4G network soon after acquiring it at a dollar.
According to the government, it will use a system known as “technology neutrality” to enable the company to use its existing spectrum to provide the 4G network for its customers.
“We’ve done something we call technology neutrality so they can use their existing spectrum without having 4G to provide 4G services and we think that would help them immensely to also move forward”. Minister for Communication and Digitization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful told Starr Fm in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
When asked if government would let the company go any moment from now, Ursula Owusu said, “It is too early to decide what to do”.
“We need to stabilize the company, we need to put it on a growth path again; help them to also engage in the data space which is where the industry is headed”, she adds.

Meanwhile the minister in her interview categorically stated that government has no interest to take charge in the management aspect of the company.
“I’m not going to sit there as MD, the government is not going to manage it No…, but the staff that are there would work and after they’ve done presentations about the turn around and all that. We will see if they need additional help and then bring in whatever resources they need”, Ursula Owusu told Nana Aba Anamoah.
