The convener for Friends Of Bawumia (FOB) in the Eastern region, who is also the Fanteakwa North Constituency Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Opoku Acheampong says he is behind the mobilization of NPP Supporters who flooded the funeral ground of the late father of Gabby Asare Otchere -Darko in Koforidua during the weekend to mob Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
A group calling itself Friends of Bawumia for 2024 (FOB) on Saturday tacitly embarrassed Alan Kyeremateng, a Presidential candidate hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party during the funeral of the late father of Gabby Otchere-Darko
The over a hundred supporters of the group wearing the same branded T-shirts and holding huge banners manoeuvred into the funeral grounds and forecourt of St. Georges Catholic Church auditorium during burial Service to cheer the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia while his rival Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng was also present and were boo at a point outside the church premises.
They were heard shouting in unison “wo y3y3 ya Bawumia beba” to wit “come what may Bawumia will lead NPP in 2024”.
The funeral was attended by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa, Ministers of state and their deputies, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, as well as other government appointees, Musicians, Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress among others.
Some supporters of Alan Kyeremateng were displeased by the behaviour of the Friends of Bawumia group stating that their action was unnecessary given that it was a funeral ground and should have not been used for a political gimmick.
However, George Opoku Acheampong, Fanteakwa North Constituency Organizer of the NPP who is also National Coordinator of Friends of Bawumia disagrees. He admitted that he organized the supporters of the NPP who believe in the competence of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to welcome him without any malice of causing harassment to anyone.
Friends of Bawumia for 2024 (FOB) was inaugurated in January 2021 in Koforidua by Some constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region declaring their support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, current Vice President of Ghana to lead the Party in 2024.
