Vice-Chairman of Progressive People’s Party (PPP) UK chapter, Mr. Austin Justin has called for the abolishment of the boarding house system of education in the second cycle institutions in Ghana.
“Why should every school in Ghana be made a boarding house? Even in proportion, the number of day students are far higher than those in the boarding house. Boarding house should be made for those outside the school’s jurisdiction”, he spoke on Kumasi-based Akoma FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
According to him, it beats imagination that Ghana is still running educational shift system despite the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by the government.
Mr. Austin Justin therefore implied that, the free SHS is useless with the shift system currently ongoing
“What’s the sense in it? I can’t understand why the current free SHS education, it should be a shift system. Why do we have to build all secondary schools boarding schools?”, he quizzed host, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin
“You can enquire the number of secondary schools there with boarding facilities”, Mr. Austin Justin added.
According to him, Ghana under the successive governments has not only retrogressed but also come into a standstill under leadership of President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP)despite much-talk that all is well comparatively to other countries in the Europe.
“If one looks at it from fifty years ago, Ghana we are not just standing but we are also reversing and it will take hundred years for Ghana to catch up with Asian countries”, Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Vice Chairman UK, Austin Justin observed.
