Former First Lady Grace Mugabe Fined 5 Beasts, 2 Goats For Violating Mugabe’s Burial Rites
As the wrangle for Mugabe’s exhumation and reburial continues, Former First Lady, Grace Mugabe has been fined five cattle and two goats by Chief Zvimba’s traditional court.
Grace Mugabe was fined for violating traditional customs and rites following the burial of her husband, the late ex-president Robert Mugabe at the family rural home’s courtyard.
This comes after she was summoned to appear before Chief Zvimba’s traditional court at Gonzo Guzha Hall at Murombedzi growth point in Zvimba on Thursday, New Zimbabwe reports.
Mugabe died in September 2019 while receiving treatment in Singapore, and according to his family, he did not want to be buried at the National Heroes Acres where deceased nationalists, senior government, and Zanu PF officials are interred.
As per his wish, the ex-president was buried at his rural home in Kutama, despite vigorous attempts by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to have him interred at the National Heroes Acres in Harare.
The much-hyped hearing kicked off yesterday, even though Grace Mugabe failed to turn up.
According to the late President’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwawo, the former first lady is currently hospitalized in Singapore.
Zhuwawo said Grace could not appear before Chief Zvimba over her late husband’s exhumation as she is currently receiving treatment in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Chief Zvimba, despite numerous denials of his involvement in the matter, reportedly chaired the indaba where it was unanimously agreed Grace should be fined five heifers and two goats.
