Everybody wants to leave Ghana, even 90-year-olds

The desire of Ghanaian youth to travel outside Ghana to seek greener pastures as a result of poor living standard of living in the country will continue for many years

According to businessman cum politician, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike, the trend where every Ghanaian including employed and unemployed are bent on travelling out of the country is  becoming alarming which the government needs to take steps to address

“Even today, if I volunteer a ship and I tell people of all classes who are interested in traveling outside the country to board, I can tell you that nobody will be left behind…employed and unemployed all will go. Even 90-year-old people will go”, Mr. Odike stated.

The founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) spoke to recent report released by Child Rights International that majority of Ghanaian children between ages of 12 and 17 are ready to leave Ghana.

Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike during panel discussion on Kumasi-based Oyerapa FM’s morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com told host, Nana Yaw Mensah Joel that, one of the reasons the people want to leave Ghana is insecurity.

“Apart from the economic hardship facing us a country, insecurity is also a big problem for some of us. Well-to-do and even the innocent poor are attacked by armed robbers day and night”, the UPP founder pointed out while urging all to work extra harder.

“We can build better Ghana if we work extra harder to support any government in power. Let us not fold our alms and think government is going to give us jobs like elsewhere. Nobody! The University and the technical vocational graduates can start doing something”, Mr. Odike said.
