Daring Thief Grabs Car At A Funeral, Gets Involved In An Accident About  Kilometre Away

A 22-year old Gokwe man was nabbed after he car jacked a vehicle belonging to a mourner at a funeral wake and sped off before getting involved in an accident about a kilometre away.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred yesterday around 4pm in Mapfungautsi surbub, Gokwe.

He also said the suspect, Tashinga Mutengarenga,was arrested following a speed chase with the police who swiftly reacted to the incident.

Circumstances are that the owner of the vehicle, Desire Pendekwa of Chief Njelele went to Mapfungautsi to attend a funeral.

He reportedly parked his vehicle, a Honda CRV, then went to attend the funeral forgetting to lock his car. The suspect, who was also part of the mourners then sneaked and jumped into the car and drove off.

Insp Mahoko said police swiftly reacted to calls and gave chase.

On realising that he was being pursued, Mutengarenga, who was speeding, then failed to negotiate a curve and the car plunged into a culvert.

The suspect was immediately arrested at the accident scene, The Herald reports.

In other news, iHarare had reported that a13-year-old boy from Kwekwe was arrested after he stabbed his stepdad for ending the union with his mother.

Absolom Muzanharo (45) was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital with the knife still stuck in his chest.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which happened last week.

According to the police report, Muzanharo arrived home from work and demanded his belongings from Flora Nkomo (46) saying he was no longer interested in their relationship.

A misunderstanding arose between the two and Muzanharo allegedly struck Nkomo with a stone once on the chest.

During the melee, Nkomo managed to escape leaving Muzanharo and her son in the house. Muzanharo allegedly tried to strike his stepson with a stick and the boy drew a knife and stabbed him once in the chest.
