Madam Magret Darko, head of the Suhum Municipality, has reported that the rate of adolescent pregnancies is rising despite attempts by the government and non-governmental organizations to curb the issue.

According to her, in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, the primary cause of teenage pregnancies is young girls’ love of indomie and mobile money (MoMo).

This is according to recent research conducted by the Ghana Health Service, the Social Welfare, and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The research also found that excessive use of social media was a major contributing factor.

The females reportedly let the boys sleep with them so they could use their phones in bed and publish inappropriate photos online. The Suhum Millennium Cultural Encyclopedia claims as much.

The MCE went on to say that young women would give in to sex “if a guy could just purchase indomie for them at night and send a token to their MoMo more regularly.”

The purpose of the research was to identify the negative impacts of COVID on young women and girls during the last two years and provide ways to mitigate such effects.

The findings of the Mce-proposed study were presented during the third Suhum Assembly general meeting.

The MCE of Suhum Municipality, Hon. Margeret Darko expressed worry to an Accra Fm news reporter about the persistent problem of adolescent pregnancy in the municipality.

Having a child is the leading cause of educational abandonment among teenage ladies.

The majority of young moms (over 50%) do not complete high school, and many (especially those living in rural areas) have additional children (over 25%) within 24 months.

She urged parents to provide a stable home environment and a quality education for their kids to ensure their success in the future.
