5 RDF Police officers arrested, detained for Ghc20,000 Momo extortion after victim’s report; names, rank revealed

The Ghana Police Service appears to be sending a serious message of assurance and confidence to the general public following news of the arrest of 5 Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) police officers less than 42 hours after a victim made an official complaint of extortion against them.

Police investigators who took over the case with very scanty information managed to gather intelligence which led to the arrest of the suspected Police Officers involved. The 5 officers according to sources are Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) personnel attached to the National Operations Combat 23 team.

The five identified extortionist officers who are currently in detention are Constables Wishwell Odoo, Sena Kuvordo, Lawal Agyapong, and Evans Arawassi. The last one is Lance Corporal Redeemer Agama.

On 24th May, a youngman named Jeffery Mackeon Yeboah who is an ordinary resident of Ashalley Botwe reported to the Police that at about 2pm while on board an Uber Vehicle from Madina to Airport, these 5 arrested Police Officers who were all masked and armed and on board an Operation Calm Life Police Vehicle intercepted the Uber Vehicle at UPSA road.

The victim told the police that, the Police Officers removed him from the Uber vehicle into their vehicle and asked the Uber vehicle to go. The 5 Police Officers drove him to Kaneshie Awudome Cemetery and accused him of being an Internet Scammer.

The Police Officers threatened to send him to an unknown location and deal with him if he does not give them an amount of Ghc20,000. In the ensuing melee, the police team finally gave him an MTN MOMO number 0558756449 bearing the name Nyame Maxwell where he fearfully transfered Ghc20,000 from his mobile banking accounts of Absa and Ecobank.

The Police Officers  abandoned him at Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass and sped off.

At the time he reported, he could not identify the said Police vehicle number.

Thorough swift investigations by the police revealed the identities of the 5.
